Imari is the Western name for Japanese porcelains produced in the town of Arita in northwestern Kyushu. Imari is the port through which the wares destined for the European market were shipped. In Japan, the domestic wares from these kilns are called Arita ware. Arita wares usually have a white background decorated with bright blue, red and orange colors. The subject matter is usually floral.
