- Inscription On the reverse of the (lined) canvas, in brown ink: "Tho:s Wedgwood / Big House / Burslem / Born th9 of Jan 1762 / Painted 27 Sept. 1802 / M. Keeling Pinx". There is part of a photo attached to the top right corner of the reverse of the stretcher that shows this inscription. Likely, the inscription visible now recreated an older inscription visible before lining and documented in the photograph.
- Provenance possibly at the Wedgwood/Wood estate Henley Hall in Shropshire[1]. Possibly Michael Lumsden, perhaps sold in the 1960s[2]. Stanley Goldfein; Buten Museum
