Tall, flattened vessel of squarish shape with coiled handles and a folded-like, slightly scrunched surface, covered with a deep blue glaze the surface of which is flecked and irregular.
Large black basalt figure of a nude, sleeping infant representing Somnus, God of Sleep, son of Night and twin brother of Death; Somnus sleeps peacefully on a rocky base that is draped with a cloth, his right leg is stretched out, his left leg is bent at the knee, and his small wings are draped casually to his right side; Somnus’ head is tilted slightly to the left, his eyes closed and his mouth slightly open, his right arm is raised and with bent elbow, rests lightly on his head, his left arm is bent and lays at his side, his left hand clutches a bouquet of sleep-inducing poppies, a common attribute of the God of Sleep, who was considered a benefactor to man, giving the weary rest and sufferers alleviation of their pain.
