Oval black basalt medallion with relief portrait of Johan de Witt (1625-1672) facing left, Born at Dort, the son of Jacob de Witt who strongly opposed William III, Prince of Orange. Johan as head of the Republican party sought to abolish the office of stadtholder, and a secret article in the treaty between Cromwell and de Witt, which terminated the war between England and Holland. His brother Cornelis falsely accused of conspiracy against the life of the Stadtholder, William, was imprisoned. Jan visited him in prison, where both men were attacked and killed by the mob. This relief is modelled by John Flaxman Sr. in about 1782.
Obverse: Conjoined heads right. Reverse: The rolled Constitution within a wreath of crossed laurel and oak branches.
Cast-iron plaque with a view of the new casting hall built in the neo-Gothic style at the Royal Hanover Iron Foundry at Königshütte, in self-cast and gilt frame with grape leaves and grapes.
Tall vase of red earthenware covered inside and out with an opaque white glaze that runs thick and thin over the piece revealing the structure of the vase below, the rim left glaze-free, with flecks and speckles throughout.
