Working with lithography, Toulouse-Lautrec produced some of the most visually striking posters of his time. Indeed, these commercial advertisements were pilfered by collectors from the streets of Paris almost as soon as they were displayed. Birmingham’s print is a fine example of one of his most famous posters: the flat areas of vibrant color, coupled with strong calligraphic lines make for a particularly eye-catching image of Aristide Bruant, a prominent entertainer and night-club owner.
