Artist and Exhibition Submissions

The Birmingham Museum of Art is one of the finest regional museums in the United States and is dedicated to sparking the creativity, imagination, and liveliness of Birmingham by connecting all of its citizens to the experience, meaning, and joy of art.

Although we welcome artists’ and exhibition submissions, the Birmingham Museum of Art rarely accepts unsolicited exhibitions due to our robust exhibition schedule designed to serve all of our collection areas. Please follow the guidelines below to submit your proposal. We recommend visiting the Museum prior to submitting to determine if your work is an appropriate fit for our exhibitions program. Please keep in mind that we receive a large number of inquiries and are only able to review materials twice per year, in September and March.

The Museum is unable to respond to all submissions. A Museum representative will contact you if any additional materials are required.

Please do not send any materials you would like returned; the Museum is unable to return any submissions. Additionally, please do not bring or mail original artwork to the Museum.

Please Note

Please do not submit actual works of art. The Birmingham Museum of Art cannot accept or return artist submissions.

The Museum receives many artist submissions for semiannual review in March and September. As a result, it may not be possible to reply to all submissions.

The Museum’s exhibition calendar is planned years in advance and is tailored to the interests  of our audience and collection. We look forward to reviewing your submission, but please know that the Museum is rarely able to accommodate unsolicited submissions for exhibition.
