Art On The Rocks 2015: Recap

/ In the Community - Press Release - Programs - Slideshows

With Labor Day just around the corner, summertime is officially coming to an end. All summer long, the Museum celebrated the best of Birmingham art, culture, food, and more at Art On The Rocks.

The eleventh anniversary season of Art On The Rocks, presented by Dale’s Seasoning, was an incredible success. More than 6,000 people visited the Museum and enjoyed performances by Birmingham artists, musicians, and designers, who drew inspiration from the Museum’s renowned collection. Our summer exhibitions included Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals at Talladega College, Between Fantasy and Reality: Frank Fleming, and Black Like Who?, and all exhibitions remained open after-hours for guests to enjoy. Guests sampled a variety of cuisine, from both local and regional food trucks; viewed dance, spoken word, and musical performances in the galleries; perused a designer showcase pop-up shop, presented by Southern Living Magazine and Pepper Place; sipped specialty cocktails; and enjoyed surprises all summer long – even an edible doughnut wall! The Upper Plaza was flooded with excitement for the talented headlining bands, Reptar, Shadowboxers, and Clear Plastic Masks. After Rocks, sponsored by H2 Real Estate, kept the party going with featured drink specials at Carrigan’s Public House, Paramount, and The Collins Bar.

The diverse range of performances and demonstrations from local artists and supporters featured: AROVA Contemporary Ballet, BIG Communications, Charlie Pocket Squares, DANCEe, DJ Nathan Boldt, DJ SexPanther, Eric Bennet of Carrigan’s Public House, Erin Michelle Vaiskauckas and Mike Stansy, Jones Valley Teaching Farm, Pepper Place Pop-Up, RoseGolden Flowers, Seasick Records, Southern Living, The Southern Homme, Stone Hollow Farmstead, We Have Doughnuts, Wheelhouse Salon, WordSpeak, 1SharpG, and Yellowhammer Creative.

The Birmingham Museum of Art would like to thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, and new guests who became members during Art On The Rocks! The Museum also extends a special thanks to the sponsors who made this 2015 season such a success: Dale’s Seasoning, Bromberg’s, A&G Lighting, Birmingham Budweiser, Cahaba Brewing Co., Back Forty Beer Co., H2 Real Estate, Fox 6, and Birmingham Mountain Radio.
