2018 Museum Art Educator of the Year

/ Staff Updates

The Museum is proud to announce that the Alabama Art Education Association recently awarded the 2018 Museum Art Educator of the Year to Willow Scott, Manager of Youth and Community Engagement.

The Alabama Art Education Association is a professional organization of art educators dedicated to advocating for art education by following national standards, providing membership services, and professional growth and leadership opportunities.

“I’m honored to have received this award because it highlights my efforts in building interactive and memorable programming around youth and the community,” Willow said.

Before joining the BMA staff a little over a year ago, Willow worked with numerous art initiatives, organizations, and events around Birmingham. Her expertise in family programming has been invaluable.

“I was thrilled to learn that Willow was nominated and awarded Museum Art Educator of the Year,” said Curator of Education Rachel White. “The award is a testament to her first year at the BMA, where she worked incredibly hard to sustain our outreach programs and summer camps all the while initiating and building new collaborations with community organizers, schools, and colleges. She brings infectious enthusiasm to every conversation and program, and I’m excited to see her vision for year two bringing the liveliness and social importance of art making into Birmingham’s many communities.”
