Magic City Art Connection Workshop

April 26, 2015

The Museum is an official partner of this year’s Magic City Art Connection! Come visit us for free tours and an art workshop during the festival!

Frank Fleming’s Between Fantasy and Reality exhibit features funny and fascinating sculptures produced between 1970-1985, a period when Fleming worked primarily with clay, stoneware, and ceramics. Animals with human fingers and toes, and cakes covered in tongues are just a few of the works featured in Fleming’s early work. Inspired by these sculptures at the Birmingham Museum of Art we will be making our own fantasy creatures. Craft your own paper animal or human body, hands & feet, and hold the puppet rods to make it dance to the music. Perhaps no one has ever seen a unicorn with duck feet and walrus tusks, but your shadow puppet can be the first!

This year’s designs are up to the challenge, featuring cartons of buttermilk, trash bags, fishing nets, stamps, and more!
