This exhibition showcases artworks by members of Teen BMA, the Museum’s leadership and professional development program for students aged 14 to 18 in the Birmingham area. After attending an orientation session in August, members meet twice per month after school to learn about the Museum’s collection, to meet artists from a variety of disciplines, and to work together on a collaborative project. Members also plan and host a special teen night at the Museum, and volunteer in our children’s gallery, Bart’s ArtVenture, and at family days and other special events. Many members are artists, but not all.

Students in this year’s Teen BMA program attend the following schools: Alabama School of Fine Arts, The Altamont School, Excelsior Homeschool, Hoover High School, Huffman High School, Indian Springs School, Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School, Oak Mountain High School, Ramsay High School, Shades Valley High School, and Vestavia Hills High School.

Committed to being an active partner in our community, the Museum has worked with school  systems, teachers, and students for over 20 years to provide innovative arts experiences that enable students to develop creativity, critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate. These abilities are critical for success as students continue their education and prepare to enter the workplace.
