Jizo Bosatsu is one of the most popular Buddhist deities in Japan. His primary task is to assist in directing mankind on the path to salvation. However, he is also worshipped by women in labor for a safe delivery, by travelers for help in any kind of danger, and by parents whose children died young.
The Kei School was a sculpture studio that produced many of the finest Buddhist images in the Kamakura period (1185-1336).
