January 10th ROADTRIP TO NASHVILLE
Daytrip to Nashville to see the exhibition Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video at the First Center for the Visual Arts. The focus of the trip will be the retrospective exhibition of more than 200 objects—primarily photography, but including texts, audio, and video works—tracing Weems’s career over the last thirty years.
April 6th ARTIST WORKSHOP: HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A HIPPO
In conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Hip, Hippo, Hooray! The Hippopotamus Dinner Service, the Museum has invited Sarah Louise Galbraith, the photographer commissioned to document hippos from around the world for the porcelain dinner service, to lead a workshop at the Birmingham Zoo to teach some of the tricks of the trade when photographing animals. At the end of the tour, participants will be given a behind-the-scenes visit with Tadpole, the Zoo’s hippopotamus. Open to all Museum members (not only Photo Guild). Cost is $35. Registration required.
May 14th ANNUAL VOTING EVENT
The most vital role support groups play in the life of the Museum is helping to build the Museum’s art collection. The annual voting event allows Photo Guild members the opportunity to participate by voting to choose a photograph that will become a part of the permanent collection. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about the Museum’s collection.
