Enjoy the Museum with your child

It’s easy to have fun with your child at the Museum. If you need a little help, here are some tips that might make your visit more fun!

PLAN YOUR VISIT

Plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour at the Museum with your child. Little legs and little eyes get tired easily, so don’t try to do too much. And remember, we are FREE and open 6 days a week, so you can come back as often as you like!

Want to come when there is a scheduled program? Click here for a list of what’s going on.

Want to eat lunch or grab a snack while you are here? Check out the kids menu and hours of our café, Oscar’s.

USE YOUR EYES – NOT YOUR HANDS

We want you to have fun and enjoy your visit, but there some rules in the Museum. It helps if you and your child review these guidelines before your visit.

Museum Guidelines for a Safe and Fun Visit:

  • No touching, please. We don’t want to damage the artworks with our hands.

  • No food, drink or gum is allowed in the museum galleries.

  • Keep a safe distance from the art (recommend a minimum of 2 feet).

  • No leaning on or touching the walls or pedestals.

  • Remember that only pencils are allowed in the galleries. No pens or markers, please.

  • Backpacks, heavy coats, umbrellas and other unnecessary articles should be left in your car are checked into a locker. They are not allowed in the galleries.

  • Cameras (including cell phone cameras) are to be used only with museum permission. If you want to take pictures, please ask the Security Officer at the front desk for a camera pass. But remember, no flash photography is allowed.

  • Cell phone use is not allowed in the galleries. You may use your cell phone in the main lobby, Oscar’s café, and the Hess Education Gallery – A Town of the Creek Nation, 1790.

Hands-ON!

It's very tempting for little hands to want to touch.  If the temptation gets strong, don't fight it - head for one of our Hands-ON galleries.
