Becoming a member of the Birmingham Museum of Art helps the Museum by providing funding for programming and publications. Members receive invitations to special events, free or reduced admission to exhibitions, subscription to our newsletter, Store discounts, and numerous other benefits. For all the details, please view our membership section.
You can make contributions in honor or memory of friends and family members. Your gift is fully tax-deductible and an elegant gift card will be sent to the person(s) you designate. For more information, contact Sandra Schade, Development Assistant, at (205) 254-2086 or make a donation online.
Corporations encourage their employees, retirees, and directors to join them in the financial support of charitable and cultural institutions. Matching gifts multiply the value of your contribution and are an important source of funding for the Museum. Simply request a matching gift form from your employer, complete the donor section, and send it along with your contribution to the Museum. We will do the rest and notify you when the matching gift is received. To find out whether your employer participates in a matching gift program, contact your personnel office or refer to the partial list of matching gift companies. There are a variety of ways to make a significant gift to the Birmingham Museum of Art while furthering your own personal and financial objectives. Our planned giving staff can work with you and your financial advisor to create a gift plan that works for you. Individuals who have made a planned gift to the Museum are invited to join The Wells Society. The thoughtfulness and generosity of Wells Society members help to ensure that the Museum will continue to collect, preserve and exhibit works of art and provide educational programs and services to future generations. For more detail on specific gift plans or for a confidential conversation about how a plan might meet your own objectives, contact Amy Templeton, Director of Development and Planned Giving, at (205) 254-2969.
When Helen Jacob Wells died on Christmas Eve, 1954, she left a bequest of over $1 million to build a permanent facility for an art museum in Birmingham. She expressed her desire to nourish an interest in the fine arts among the people of Birmingham and to establish a fitting memorial to her beloved husband, Oscar. Today, The Oscar Wells Memorial Building is at the core of the Birmingham Museum of Art’s 180,000 square feet of exhibition and programming facilities. Membership in The Wells Society is open to all those who have made a gift to the Museum through their estates, regardless of amount. Gifts may be designated for a particular purpose or may be unrestricted for use where the need is greatest. Membership in The Wells Society entails no further responsibility on your part. Members are invited to special events during the year, and those who would like to participate in our education program Art in the Afternoon will receive complimentary enrollment. To become a member of The Wells Society or to receive further information about this important group, contact Amy Templeton, Director of Development and Planned Giving, at (205) 254-2969.
