France

Spend April 2011 in the south of France! Join us for a whirlwind tour of one of France’s most charming regions. Led by curator Anne Forschler-Tarrasch, the trip will begin in Avignon with visits to museums, historic homes, and private art collections. We’ll continue on to Aix-en-Provence, Nice, and the Cote d’Azur, where we’ll follow in the footsteps of some of France’s most important artists. Along the way we’ll tour beautiful gardens, sample delicious food, and mingle with the locals. Come experience la belle France with us! Vietnam

We are going to Vietnam! Don Wood, Ph.D., Senior Curator and The Virginia and William M. Spencer III Curator of Asian Art, will lead a tour to Vietnam late in 2011. While the arts of Vietnam are little known outside of the country, inside there is a wealth of material in museums, temples and in both traditional and colonial architecture. Even entire towns, such as Doi An, are regarded as living museums. From the earliest native cultures such as the Dong Son, through the important Cham kingdom and the Nguyen dynasty of more recent times, Vietnam offers a window into the history of Southeast Asian art more comprehensive than that of any of the neighboring countries. We will be visiting some of the best sites, museums, galleries and temples, from north to south, with experts on hand to assist in our understanding of over 2,000 years of Asian history.

We will offer an additional three-day trip to Cambodia to visit the World Heritage Site temples of Ankor Wat and Ankor Thom. As time permits, we will take in other historic sites that surround the Siem Reap area of Cambodia. Members of the Asian Art Society will be given preference in reservations for the trip. Join the AAS today to make sure you can reserve a spot. The trip is organized by Nature Travel Specialists.
