No form of art is more suited for creation and exhibition in Birmingham than metal art. Although the iron and steel industries are no longer the dominant forces they once were, they remain an important part of the city’s history. They are also a tremendous resource for the production of metal sculpture – the artistic expression of Birmingham’s industrial heritage. Sloss Furnaces continues to honor the history of iron production through their Summer Youth Apprenticeship program.
