The Museum bustled with creative energy on Tuesday, March 20 as more than 200 visitors joined Google staff members to create their very own Google Doodle. More than 114,000 students across the nation in grades K-12 generated drawings in response to the Google prompt, "If I could travel in time, I'd visit..." The Doodle Event at BMA contributed 86 drawings to the competition, in addition to thousands of others submitted by teachers and parents throughout the state. Doodle were judged by Google staff and guest judges, including Katy Perry and children's book author and illustrator Mo Willems, based on artistic skill, overall creativity, and communication of the theme. Reily Randolph, a fifth grader at Greystone Elementary School, won the State Finalist award for Alabama with her doodle "The Industrial Revolution." Randolph's drawing, along with the top 10 doodles from Alabama, will be on display at the Museum this summer in the Stairwell Gallery on the 2nd floor July 1-August 26. Join us in celebrating the creative achievements of these young Alabama artists, and while you are in the exhibition, participate in a drawing activity if the inspiration strikes!
