The Asian Art Society will have a private screening of the 2011 acclaimed film Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The film is based on the Lisa See novel and directed by Wayne Wang. The story is set in 19th century China and centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a brilliantly realistic journey back to an era of Chinese history that is as deeply moving as it is sorrowful. This lyrical and emotionally charged movie is filled with rich, colorful period details. The event is for AAS members.
