ArtBreak // Stage Revival: Restoring The Historic Lyric Theatre (12:00 - noon - 12:30 - noon)
FREE
Join us for these special 20-30 minute talks and if you stay for lunch at Oscar’s, they’ll even throw in dessert!
Built in 1914 in the heart of Birmingham's bustling theatre district, the Lyric was one of the finest vaudeville houses in the Southeast. Although the Lyric had segregated seating and segregated entrances, it was the only venue in town where black and white audiences saw the same show at the same time for the same price. Efforts are underway to restore the Lyric, just in time for its centennial. The Museum plans to partner with the Lyric for it’s 2013 programming with artist Jefferson Pinder, so be on the lookout for more on the Lyric soon!
Led by Glenny Brock, Lyric Theatre Volunteer Coordinator.
