Visually Impaired Program: The Arts of Africa

Visually Impaired Program: The Arts of Africa

In this program for adults, held the second Saturday of each month, specially trained docents present the Museum’s collection by means of verbal descriptions, three-dimensional tactile models based on original works of art, and sculpture. The experience may be enhanced by related music and/or art-making to provide multi-sensory access to the visual arts. Space is limited; reservations are required. Please RSVP by Monday, May 5.

European Art Society: The Making of Delacroix and the Matter of Finish

Curator of European Art Robert Schindler, PhD, will talk about what it took to show Delacroix and the Matter of Finish at the BMA. Dr. Schindler will give a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the exhibition, from planning the presentation, building the exhibitions space, bringing in the artwork, unpacking, installation, and more.

Friends of American Art: Rollin’ on the River: Riverboat Commerce and Decorative Arts in the Antebellum South

This event is for members of Friends of American Art. If you’re interested in joining this support group, please contact Debbie Bartoletti at dbartoletti@artsbma.org. Navigable rivers played an important role in the transportation of consumer goods from the North to the Deep South prior to the Civil War, and river ports emerged as important centers of commerce and culture. Curator of American Art Graham Boettcher, Ph.D. will look at well-appointed interiors of the period, and discuss how the riverboat trade helped shape Southern tastes.
