Summer Solstice Concert

June 22 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

The Museum’s English gallery serves as inspiration for the concert which reflects the elegance and sophistication surrounding English life in the eighteenth century, at manor houses such as Chatsworth House, and at the various “Pleasure Gardens.” There were more than sixty gardens in the city of London alone and concerts were held in them most evenings in the summer. Vauxhall Gardens retained a fifty piece orchestra throughout the season and twelve thousand people came to the dress rehearsal for Handel’s “Fireworks Suite!”

Don’t forget to check out Slow Art Sunday before the concert to continue the English theme with a tour of Pieter Tillemans’ Chatsworth House.
