Despite the historic importance of the Bible to American culture and daily life, Biblical subjects in 18th- and 19th-century American art are surprisingly few, especially considering their prevalence in the Old World. Graham Boettcher, PhD, will explore this country’s sometimes uneasy relationship with religious iconography and discuss some fascinating examples of Old and New Testament imagery from the period.
Lunch will be served for $13.50 per person. To RSVP and reserve a lunch, please contact Andrew Farrell at firstname.lastname@example.org or 205.297.8073 by April 2nd.
