THE VALUE OF ART
What makes fine art fine? What happens when a Rembrandt is de-attributed by a group of Rembrandt scholars? How much is a masterpiece by Rauschenberg worth that cannot be bought or sold due to its incorporation of a stuffed endangered species? Appraiser and independent scholar Amanda Adams weaves together stories from the museum world delving into how our understanding of art can be framed by its monetary value.
This program is for people who want to learn more about art in an informative and interactive setting. These programs, with the exception of June, are held on the first Thursday of each month, January through October. Coffee and light refreshments are available. Tours are led by curators or guest lecturers, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions, share thoughts and ideas, and actively participate in the learning process.
