The Museum launched its first iPad mobile application last year in conjunction with Look of Love: Eye Miniatures from the Skier Collection. The Look of Love app was very well received; over 2800 visitors used it in the exhibition, and over 1500 users downloaded it from countries around the globe. Its high-resolution photography, videos, and supplementary information helped onsite and offsite visitors engage with and explore the intricate eye miniatures more actively.
Curatorial and Education staff members have been working to translate that success to the Museum’s permanent collection. Our ArtsBMA app, launched in October 2013, offers an innovative and fun new way for visitors to take a closer look and to engage more deeply with artworks from special exhibitions and the collection. The web-based app provides text, audio and video clips, alternate views, links to web resources, and other related information. Visitors can browse by special exhibition or collecting area, or choose a thematic tour; information about events is also available. A special Family Focus! section provides opportunities to adults and children to explore the Museum together.
The ArtsBMA app, accessed for FREE here, is optimized for tablets, smartphones, and other web-enabled devices. Visitors without their own devices may check out an iPad for FREE from the Museum’s information desk, located on the 2nd floor in front of Oscar’s café; FREE WiFi is also available throughout the Museum.
New artworks and tours are added regularly, so check in often to see what’s new!
The Museum is grateful to Dr. & Mrs. David Skier for funding the purchase of iPads for the Museum and the initial development and implementation of this project.
