Where else can you dress up for an evening of artsy entertainment, cultural interaction, and “WHOA” moments? But this year has its own flavor, as the Museum raises the bar with new perks. Here are 5 reasons our 11th season is sure to be the best one yet:

1. Massive Murals
In June, the Museum opens a new exhibition honoring an Atlanta artist who was commissioned by Talladega College to tell a very important story. These murals, which you can see before anyone else at June 12’s Art On The Rocks, depict the struggle from slavery to freedom for African Americans in the south. Six canvases bursting with vivid colors and dramatic action leave onlookers transfixed. Praised by audiences across the nation, Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals at Talladega College is returning to Alabama, and what better way to welcome back these treasures than with an evening at the Museum?

2. Animated Party Pics
Why have a photobooth when you can have an animated photobooth? Brought to AOTR by BIG Communications, the branding company in town well known for its forward thinking and attention to fun details, the animated photobooth opens us to a whole new world of memory-keeping. Think wobbling, twirling, and pantomiming. Stop by the photobooth with two things: a friend and your dancing shoes!

3. VIP Status
With these perks you may feel like you’re getting away with something, since Active Junior Patrons members will get free beer and cocktails, prime band seating, catered food, and a $10 discount on tickets. It pays to be a Junior Patron! If you aren’t a member and want in on the fun, click here.

4. #AfterRocks
Art On The Rocks ends at 11PM, but your night doesn’t have to! AfterRocks will send guests to some of our favorite Birmingham bars, keeping the fun and energy of the night going! Thanks to H2 Real Estate, 3 bars downtown will host #AfterRocks, the official Art On The Rocks After Party. There will be drink specials at the Collin’s, Carrigans Public House, and Paramount after each event – just show your AOTR wristband to receive the specials.

5. Foodtruck Fare
For the first time this summer, Art On The Rocks will transform the BMA parking lot into a one-stop spot for dinner, featuring Birmingham’s favorite food trucks. Guests will receive a food token upon entry for credit toward menu items at each truck. Food can be brought indoors but tables and lights in the parking lot will add even more party space for you and your friends!

Each event will have artists, performances, and must-sees, not to mention the bands. Our first event will take place on Friday, June 12 from 7-11PM. Tickets are $15 for BMA members and $25 for non-members. If you plan to attend, join our Facebook event and invite your friends!
